Raging Swan Press in One Word
I like simple. Simple things are good. Simple things are easy to understand, and there is less to go wrong with them. (As an aside, some would say I’m the living embodiment of simple, but that’s a discussion for another time.)
A one-word concept is as simple as you can get. It lets you get to the core essence of something. This, in turn, helps you keep in mind what is essential and important. It keeps the fundamentals front and centre and enables tight and appropriate design.
So, what single word defines Raging Swan Press?
In my (heroic) quest to get to the core of Raging Swan Press, I considered “fun” and “adventure” as our single word concepts, but both are so bland and generic that they are essentially meaningless. What 3PP does not want its products to be fun? Who doesn’t publish adventures in one form or another?
What word did I settle on?
Versimilitude (noun) the quality of appearing to be true or real.
In short, details matter. Detail and flavour help your players suspend their disbelief and immerse themselves in your campaign. Players immersed in the game forget the real world and become their characters. Play is elevated, friendships are forged, and memories are made. And, for me, that’s the point of gaming.
"Here are the bones of the adventure. You must breathe life into the framework after you flesh it out."
Gary Gygax
